Design is Dead

A personal introduction by Anna and Andrea

Let's talk about design, let's talk about logo design. A dark matter. As designers, we should have already abandoned the battlefield, why care about the quality and process of creating a logo? Economic solutions have taken over, software, AI, freelancers and greed agencies. Yet we believe that our method and our knowledge cannot be replaced. It wasn't replaceable, both before the AI era and now in the AI era. We are not the classic designers who cry and make demagogic speeches saying "design is dead" or "writing is dead" (The image of the article has a merely provocative function). We are confident in what we say. We are confident in the value of what we have learned. We are confident in our abilities. It's up to you to choose how deep to go and what choices to make, what approach to use for the design of your company or project. If you have time, continue reading the perspective of real designers, real people with more than 10 years of experience in the field. We never abandoned ship, because what we know is important, it's important for your business, for your person.

Design was already Dead

The value of design has always been mistreated. Today everyone complains about AI. But before AI, there were pre-made software and templates that could create logos in 1 minute. A cheap solution, a quick solution. Design before AI was already dead thanks to this trap. A trap that offered and still offers (because all of this still exists) a practical solution. An illusion of being able to play with the system, the magnificent idea of being "smart", while someone invests in a real professional designer, genius takes over. A cleverness, a superficial cleverness. Quick and low-cost solutions, even free ones. Doesn't this promise sound strange to you?

Professional Human Bias

As if a magical technological means wasn't enough, humans thought it wise to deliver a final blow to a fascinating subject like design. Human cunningness decided to adapt to this method, fast and low-cost. This has allowed the invasion of hordes of improvised people, people who have never read even a page of design rules and theory, to present themselves as designers. What are we talking about? Think about the hordes of so-called "micro gigs", $5 designers, very "astute" people. Agencies rubbed their hands, subcontracting designs. For them the issue was one: not to move a pixel, have low-cost labor and finalize on the client. It's not just a matter of price. Even a logo costing 700 or 1500 euros can be an aberration to design logic and aesthetics. The result of this inflation? Having changed the concept and perception of Design, to the damage of the client. The point is always the same: zero ethics, minimum effort, maximum profit; the result: the death of true design.

The Consequences of the Death of True Design for People

The consequence of all this is a sad panorama. A low-quality standardization, the cancellation of human value, of its colors, of its ideas, of its principles, the superficialization, the need for formality. The consequence is having locked real people into a stereotype, into a cliché. The loss of possibilities, creativity as a disposable means. The fear of being unique, the dead calm of not stepping out of a pre-established scheme. The person now become just a "customer", where there is no time to stop, listen, understand and study personalized solutions. An "expensive" method because it requires time, human thought, human sensitivity to finalize a design that reflects the uniqueness of the person. People have lost the desire to be unique and conforming is the only means to feel safe. What could be better than a Logo with a generic design that may be identical to millions of other logos? All of this is psychologically relaxing (and not in the good sense of the word)

A Conclusion, A Choice

Let's come to a conclusion. The choice is now up to you. It's not important if design is dead, what's important is what you will choose to do. Do you want to see your logo design as something superficial, of little value, of little importance? We're not here to change the world of design, we're here to make you reflect, as you must reflect when you choose the approach to logo design or your website. You have at your disposal a panorama waiting to be explored, not design, but Yourselves, because design without people or with emptiness and without personality is already dead. Design is nothing without people. The design perspective we offer is that of a design that tells about people, their uniqueness. This is why we have long fought for the importance of original and unique design, not a bad recycled copy or following some trend. Design is not a trend, it's a possibility to discover the beauty of your uniqueness, in all its forms and colors.
